Eyescape Music Review

Orbital
In Sides
(c) 1996 Internal Records

Real organic for electronic music. Expands, flows, then slowly fragments. Never goes anywhere, but it's always expanding, getting thicker. Orbital is one of the major forces in the electronic world today. It grabs your attention after a little while. No wasted sound--nothing extraneous. It's just what needs to be there to make it happen. But it all sounds composed--very forward. Not all of it sounds electronic, but I heard they actually play their stuff--not just sampled and programmed. There are many things they handle well-- as far as texture, and character and development. They shift energy with only a couple elements. It's not like the sounds are new, they're familiar if you've listened to electronic music, it's just the organization that's new. So if you're into this kind of music, you'll recognize it.

With the bonus CD, there's well over 2 hours of music. Early contender for the desert island collection.
